Blocking Antibodies – An Immune System Response

One in two hundred couples will experience two or more consecutive miscarriages.

There are five reasons for miscarriage which have been identified:

  • Infection
  • Abnormal anatomy
  • Low progesterone levels
  • Abnormal chromosomes
  • Immune problems

Sometimes the cause of a miscarriage is unknown, and sometimes there are multiple reasons a woman miscarries.

There are solutions for miscarriage, depending on the reason(s) it happened. Your obstetrician can diagnose most of the reasons, but immune problems require special testing. At RIA, we specialize in testing and treating problems with the immune system. We’ve developed a diagnosis and treatment method that combines cell flow cytometry and IVIg or Intralipid. Our success rate is 80 percent and has resulted in hundreds of births.

Most Don’t Know the Immune System Can Cause Miscarriage

One in every 200 couples are too genetically similar to achieve successful pregnancy, and as many as 50% of miscarriages are caused by immune system responses. Early detection is vital, because usually couples don’t know immune problems can be a cause. The chances of mother having a successful pregnancy without treatment when the immune system is the cause is 30% after three miscarriages, 25% after four miscarriages, and 5% after 5 miscarriages.

Recent advances have helped us understand how the immune system adapts when a woman gets pregnant to make sure the fetus isn’t rejected and can grow into a healthy baby.

The good news is that there is hope. As the United States’ only private physician group capable of performing all of the laboratory tests necessary to diagnose this condition, we can provide complete evaluation within 10 days. And we closely monitor each pregnancy, consulting with referring physicians every step of the way.
